Designing A Logo For Your Website

For anyone setting up a company website, they will realise the importance of a good recognisable logo. Most large companies are recognisable purely from their logo and yours should be no different.  You may not have the marketing budget of these large corporations, however there is no reason that you cant get a good cheap logo design that will help to sell your product or website.

You should start by focusing on the purpose of your website. Is it an ecommerce website, an informative site or perhaps it is a discussion forum. It is important you ask yourself what the purpose of your website is and what it is that you want your logo to convey.

Once you have decided what you need from your logo the next step is to do a bit of research on websites that are in a similar niche to yours to see how they go about using logos to market themselves.  Most web based companies will have a logo based around some sort of text representation of their name.  Simple examples of this are Ebay and of course, Amazon.Once you have completed all your research you can start sketching out some ideas.  Get everything down on paper, even if you have a stupid idea.  Do at least 10-20 sketches and try to include some simple graphics, makeing sure that you don’t forget to include the name.

Don’t overcomplicate your logo and make sure that you keep it nice and simple.A Good logo can be read quickly and when someone sees it they should be able to think of your company immediately.Make sure that you pay close attention to any typefaces you are using (people usually refer to the typeface as the ‘font’).Once you have a decent number of ideas down narrow it down to a handful of your favourites then pick on that ‘jumps out’ at you.

If you are drawing by hand then recreate your logo using your computer and photoshop.  If you aren’t too confident with paint packages then hire the services of someone who is.Once it is completed, save the file as a .jpg or .png file where it will be ready for you to upload it ready for use on your company website!
